Questions I’d want to ask Shalyn the week before the wedding

Q: What’s the dresscode?

A: Whatever you feel comfortable in. Don’t feel the need to go out and buy something new or dress all fancy, just come as yourself. But don’t wear white. Or those pointy heels that don’t go well with uneven, natural floors. The venue is mostly outside, so depending on the weather come prepared.

Q: Will there be toilets?

A: Absolutely! There are composting toilets on site, and separate urinals. For those without experience of such facilities - don’t panic! They’re delightful. And really, in a world of borders and divisions, we all know community is the best tonic, and what better way to get to know your guests than having such a beautifully close connection to each others ablutions?

Q: I heard there will be singing. Do I have to?

A: The question really is, how sad will I feel if I don’t sing? Come vibrate that vagus nerve in the best way possible.

Q: I’d like to buy you a gift. Are you accepting pokemon cards/cash?

A: That’s really so generous of you. The biggest gift to us would be our loved ones showing up, both physically and in spirit, and helping us build a great day together. Whether that’s in food/drink contributions (see spreadsheet),helping us during the day to shuffle around chairs and tables, or doing your best Diana Ross impersonations (either during Sing Along with Rainbow, or on the dancefloor). We want the day to be not only something beautiful to look back on, but a strengthening of the community of fantastic people we’re fortunate to have around us.

Q: Can I bring my kidlings?

A: Aside from babes in arms, we’re aiming to have an adult occasion. However, we totally understand that finding childcare can be a challenge, especially if traveling, so we’d much rather as many people can make it as possible, so feel free to bring along those little scamps (we can provide themwith sugary drinks, muddy hillsides and personal fireworks to play with to keep them entertained). There will be a quiet indoor space for any naps / breastfeeding needs.

Q: I’d really love to contribute some food/drink, but I’m not able to.

A: We 100% understand that it’s not possible for everyone and that’s absolutely fine. Just bring your dancing shoes, an extra bag of hype and big smiles instead.

Q: Can I drive to the venue?

A: Unfortunately the venue is nestled away in an area without parking, and so it’s not practical to drive there. If you can’t walk, cycle, ride your zebra, then we’d suggest getting a taxi to the nearby St Werburgh’s City Farm and making the 4 minute walk over to the venue. There are also bus routes nearby.

Q: Can I bring my bubble machine?

A: Hells yes.

Q: Will there be a quiet space?

A: We’ll have a little sheltered roundhouse which can be used to have a chill or get some privacy (baby’s be hungry, am I right? Big up the mums). It will also be used for embroidering, tea drinking and chilling (Shay’s classic Thursday night, tbh), but feel free to turf everyone out if you’d like a little privacy.

Q: What genre of sun dance will you be undertaking in preparation for this event?

A: In the weeks leading up to the day we’ll be having daily kitchen boogies while blasting out Roy Ayers. As we know, the more people that do this the more powerful the incantation, so please feel free to join in your own residences. Thanks.

Q: OMG I’m so excited!!

A: Us too! But that’s not a question, Mum.
